The scoreboard above the Birmingham Bulldogs diamond reads ‘Build it and they will come,’ and come they did, as Milton Keynes Hurricanes travelled to the Birmingham on Sunday, and left with a healthy victory. The Hurricanes got rolling early, batting around in the top of the first inning, and showing excellent patience to draw a number of walks. The innings finally came to an end with a good catch by the Shortstop, but not before Milton Keynes had scored four runs. To their credit, the Bulldogs answered with four in the bottom of the inning, but from that point on the Hurricanes gradually exerted their dominance. Their fifth run came on a long home run from Andrew Larwill, who also had a good game behind the plate. He combined well with pitcher Darrin Ward, who threw nine excellent innings in a winning cause. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the Milton Keynes performance was that contributions came from up and down the line up. Ian Robinson drove in a couple from ninth in the order, and the team combined for 11 hits over the nine innings. The final score was 17 to 7.
Next Sunday Milton Keynes meet Northampton in their final game of the season.
