BaseballMK Pony team opened their new season splitting a doubleheader against Burgess Hill Red Hats on Saturday. With only 5 players remaining from last years Pony team, the new recruits and younger Bronco players kept the games open for the more experienced players to impose their mark. Most impressive of these was Tom McVay, whose persistence brought five walks and five runs.
In the first game BMK were losing 11-7 going into the sixth and final inning before the whole team staged an amazing comeback to score 11 runs and then held on to take the victory 18-14. BMKs man of the match was Kieran OSullivan who hit a double & a grand-slam home run in the final inning and as relief pitcher also took the win.
A similar situation transpired in the second game with BMK trailing 9-14 heading into the final inning following some defensive mishaps. On this occasion, despite a second home run by Gordon Sheppard, BHRH held on to impose a 12-14 defeat on BMK. Ed Wilmot was man of the match with his consistency at first base and also showed his speed scoring four runs & stealing three bases.
